Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has revealed why Antoine Griezmann left the club to rejoin Atletico Madrid.
According to the Spaniard, Barcelona’s financial struggles were the main reason behind Griezmann’s departure.
Xavi spoke ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga clash with Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
“We decided to let Antoine Griezmann leave just because of the financial situation; the club had to let him go.
“Griezmann is a player that I like a lot, but he left for that reason,” Xavi told the media on Saturday, via Fabrizio Romano.
Griezmann joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 and stayed with the Catalan club through 2021.
The France international returned to Atletico Madrid, first on loan and then permanently, in the summer of 2022.
